Bratislava is in southwestern Slovakia, occupying both banks of the River Danube and the left bank of the River Morava. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two independent countries.

In 2012 Warsaw was ranked as the 32nd most liveable city in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit. It was also ranked as one of the most liveable cities in Central and Eastern Europe.

It is the fourteenth-largest city in the European Union. It is also the historical capital of Bohemia.

It is the country’s principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, and transportation centre, sometimes described as the primate city of Hungary.
